‘Le Jeu de Massacre’
Two years after our publication of ‘Fernand Martin, toymaker in Paris’ we, Arthur Verdoorn and Lourens Bas, were very happy and surprised to read an article in The Antique Toy World of December 2016. Renaud Fournier described the discovering of ‘Le Jeu de Massacre’. It is marked in the lower right as well as the lower left (F.M.) We already had a reference in our book at page 45 (number 16) but a picture was not available until recently! With the help and permission of Renaud Fournier we are able to share this with you.
This is one of the two toys made by Martin in the first period (1878-1894) of which a picture was missing. Now we are looking for a picture of ‘Le Bouquet Surprise’ (number 4) described at page 38. It is a ‘Jack-in-the-box’ with flowers. Who will be the lucky finder this time?
